The story so far…
I got the idea for this project after doing some work on the side for a local woman. She had recently gotten surgery and needed someone to just clean, cook, and organize her house as she prepared to make a possible move into a retirement community. It was one of the most fulfilling jobs I’ve ever had, I was helping someone and they were helping me.
I brought in 3 of my closest friends and we decided to see how many people we could help. It was a way for us to have fun, make some extra money, and just help out our community. It has quickly become something greater for us that we are extremely passionate about. We hope to eventually grow this into a network, building a community of mutual aid on top of Philly’s already amazing one, and have events for everyone to join!
It’s scary having some task you just don’t know how to do or just can’t do alone. I know that feeling. Not everyone has the money for professional movers or whatever. Not everyone has someone in their life who can lend a hand. And I don’t want anyone to feel alone, especially when they’re in a city like Philly that has so many great people and kind strangers.
We’re young and have some skills, but have lots of experience to gain. We can’t retile your roof or fix your plumbing, but we can help in all sorts of ways. We truly believe that if we help you, you’ll help us too.
We have only been doing this for about 3 weeks now. Yet in that time we have already met so many amazing people, helped out, and even got on Action News. We hope to continue this project for a long time. So if you need help: reach out!
